Life as a mother is always interesting, things change quickly every day. Once you think you know what you have to do, well you don't, because the kids grow fast and new challenges arrive knocking at your door waiting for you to take them in.

Of course we don't have to take in all the challenges that come to us, but if we take in some, just by trying it does make you feel great. And since I partnered with Abbott to share my stories as part of the LIFE. TO THE FULLEST. initiative, I thought about all these new challenges that we can take as parents that can make us live a better life and feel awesome.

Parenting Challenges: Lots of Kids Activities

I am in the frame of mind to let my kids explore their passions, whatever they like. I try my best to make them participate in as many activities we can in the areas they want. Mayita hasn't tried as much yet, just ballet and gymnastics. Adrian has tried lots of different things, like karate, baseball, soccer, theater, gymnastics, skateboarding and surfing. Adrian is now into the last three: Gymnastics, skateboarding and surfing. For me, skateboarding and surfing have been two of those challenging activities. I didn't grow up close to skateboarders or surfers and, even though I live here in California where this is very common, I don't know much about it.

Unexpected Challenge: Skateboarding!

At the beginning of his interest I was a little lazy and hesitant to his prayers for going skateboarding or surfing, but lots of his friends are into it, so I became more involved after several months. We are still barely scratching the surface and I'm not sure this passion of his will last long, but I am with him and enjoying it so much more.

I am researching, learning and experiencing skateboarding with him (not so much surfing yet, maybe next summer!). His best friend goes to skateparks all the time so I found out through his mom a couple of parks that are good and we have been there.

At the skateparks there are not many 9-year-olds skateboarding so a boy like Adrian has to be strong and jump in if he wants to use the place. I've been there for him, telling him don't worry, you can do it, the park is public and so on. Honestly I am also shy and it would be hard for me if I had to skate with all those "big guys" doing tricks but once I realized that this also a challenge for me to take with him, I'm all in. And once I saw him improving, learning and having a great time I knew I did well!

Most of the days that I take Adrian skateboarding Maya comes along too, she brings her scooter and goes around the outside of the park. One day it was during the sunset and we were just sitting and chatting when Maya said that being there was great because we were able to enjoy the beautiful colors of the sunset sky. Of course my heart stopped and melted right away!!

Taking this new challenge of Adrian's skateboarding has brought us amazing times already! I now know I can keep going and take more of these unexpected challenges with the kids. It fuels up so much joy and that desire to live! These are the moments when I know I am living a full life! What will be next?
